Brown Belle

I bought the dress that I'm wearing today because of the label.
It's not that the frock was made by a well known designer or is exclusive in any way, I just simply loved the look of its groovy label...
I also rather like the crochet detailing and trumpet sleeves.
The colour isn't my favourite it has to be said but you can't have everything.
Vintage 70s maxi dress, 90s teddy fur jacket, 70s boots, gloves, crochet & soapstone heart earrings.
For me brown clobber conjures up thoughts of being a kid in the 70s.
Here are some pics from Swedish mail-order catalogues from that era...
Here's me rocking that 70s look back in the day...
My love for a groovy all-in-one goes way back it seems.
Do you have a colour or colour combination that you associate with you childhood?

Here's Boney M for your listening pleasure, enjoy :)
Loads of love,
Jennie

Great dress Jennie. I've had phases of loving brown. Been through a couple, mostly in the 90's. I have a thing about pink and blue going back to a cool new outfit I got when I was about 13. It was a pink stretch top and blue velvet trousers. About 1970. Flairs of course. Recently I've been experimenting navy and pink, and orange and pink. Quite natty, but looks nice, I think! Thanks for yur inspirational bloggin! xxx

I grew up in the 60's, so I love all the crazy combos of color. I had a orangy/yellow dress that had a poor boy bodice with a floral print skirt and a matching jacket. Of course, I wore it with window pane fishnets and white go go boots. Damn, I wish I had a picture!

Pink-and-black. It's what stopped me from becoming a nun.

Trumpet sleeves! They herald your groovy presence. Love! I'm not really a fan of brown but in this case it doesn't matter because the dress is overall too superb.

Your vintage 70s Belle Of My Heart dress is exquisitely designed and tailored! The look of the trumpet sleeves and crocheted trim and the classic puff at the shoulders are wonderful. Did you have to tailor it yourself to get that fabulous fit?
P.S.: THANK YOU for the fabulous mention on Twitter and the Twitter pic you tweeted with it! It was perfect! On the off chance you were wondering I'm sorry for the delay getting my next post done.
It will be on a pair of Retro 50's high-waist briefs from the Dollhouse vintage collection but will probably won't be before another week or two goes by.
Back to your fabulous frock - brown is a wonderful colour for coordinating other outfit pieces with. It's extremely versatile and would look beautiful styled with all of the different feminine colours I love so much.

You loook lovely in brown, brown on redheads is really pretty. Oh how I remember those 70s avacado greens, harvest golds, and of course brown in every shade! The house we used to live in & inherited hadn't been reno'd since the 70s so it was one big brown fest! Very depressing in a late Victorian NY brownstone-style (it was a wood house but same style) house. So when we moved, I have colour everywhere! My fav colour is green! Then pink, & red. Of course being a New Yorker my wardrobe is a sea of black! XXX

Great label! I'm a child of the 70s too, so the whole brown and yellow-gold combo resonates with me. That and checked blue and white shirts with outrageously huge collars, even for kids! Xo

You're looking great in that gorgeous maxi! I love the medieval-style sleeves and the white crochet details, such a funky classic 70s interpretation of Edwardian style.

I absolutely adore your frock honey. For me, I think enough time has passed to love brown maxis again - especially this beautiful example with the crochet and those fabulous bell sleeves!!! xoxoxoxooxox

What a great costume! I mean dress! And how gorgeous you are- everytime I visit, it's as if I've forgotten about your soul-searching eyes and beautiful face and figure. Then ah, I see you and it all rushes back to me.
Love how you wear things.

Fabulous dress, it reminds me of an old family photo, my younger aunt was wearing a stunning brown maxi and a matching floppy hat, it was someone's marriage, so the outfit was very elegant yet stylish, I always dreamed to own such a funky dress, the sleeves are wonderful!
Love xxxxxxx
